Texting while driving:
"It's so easy? Really easy..! it's grabbing your phone as usual, touching the screen, looking for Siri, start talking, if Siri is unaccesible, then I'll do it on my own, holding the steering wheel with my thighs or my knees, the streets are so straight, people drive straight, we all follow a line, so... nothing to worry about, I am good at this, I mean, juggling between two activities at the same time, I am the street master. Walkers? bikers? What are you talking about? Everybody owns a car! Common! Texting and driving, that's what matters, in a real sense what matters the most is my time. I am so good at this... managing two or several things at the same time... I did well in college so... I can handle it.. I mean? if the kids complain I'll give them an electronic device as well, this way they can't blame me! They will be so busy, chatting with their friends, or watching a video ... I am so busy, so many things that I am in charge of, and it can't wait! So, during the red light I will be checking for any new e-mail, red lights take so long to turn to green again ... oops green light is on... I can definitely handle it! I'll just finish this sentence and hit 'send'."
Surprise!!!
It's so easy to find an oncomming driver sharing this kind of inconvenient thoughts, a biker or even a teenager on his skateboard, headphones plugged in and texting!
The rest are statistics and we sure know it. Unfortunatly we all have our EGO shouting at us that we will be fine, that we will never be part of those statistics. Who made them? Anyway! Those are unrealistic numbers! Right?
Wrong!
23 seconds: the average time a texter takes his eyes off the road to browse!
If you just check a text message and answer in a snap, that will take at least 5 seconds. If you are driving at 35 miles per hour, it will be like shutting your eyes for 17 yards. Now 23 seconds will be like 75 yards driving blindfolded.
Some experts compare texting while driving as having drank 4 beers.
Über is helping reduce the chances of having drunk drivers on the road. Will you help reduce the numbers of texting drivers?
If you are so lucky not to have fallen into the statistics yet, take this is a wakeup call as many facts are here at play.
The smart phone has taken control not only of our driving habits but of our schedule.
We are lacking time to confront ourselves with our own thoughts.
We are wasting crucial time to speak to our partners and to our children and engage them in the art of conversation.
We need to put the phone down while driving and while sharing the table. Please Unplug!
We set the example. Please take the pledge! For better and conscious driving and higher quality coexistence.
Please take the pledge! Be an example for your children and the drivers you meet.
Please take the plegde! Become aware that the difficult circumstances will arise at any moment.
We need our hands on the wheel and our eyes on the road. Take control of your life's wheel (your life's will).
Please become aware!
